Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has hired Imosys Netball Club Coach Joana Kachilika as the new Malawi National Netball Team coach on a two-year performance-based contract.
Kachilika has replaced Peace Chawinga Kaluwa, whose reign ended under controversial circumstances.
Nam General Secretary said Kachilika has been appointed based on her experience as both player and coach.
“We considered several factors but we settled for Kachilika because she has vast experience. She is also one of the few qualified coaches in Malawi,” Chimwala said.
Eleanor Mapulanga has been appointed assistant coach whereas Beatrice Mpinganjira is the physical trainer.

Kachilika was not readily available for a comment yesterday.
In addition, Chimwala said the association has made some changes to the technical panel for the Malawi Under-20 Netball Team.
However, he did not disclose names of members of the technical panel for the junior Queens.
Samuel Kanyenda has been maintained as technical director. Kanyenda was in charge of the Queens in two previous competitions in which they performed poorly, having finished seventh during the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa and anchoring the six-member Fast5 World Netball Series.

The association has come under a barrage of criticism from the netball fraternity for failing to appoint a coach after the position fell vacant.
Kachilika was an influential player for the Queens, having featured at two Netball World Cup tournaments in 2011 and 2019.
