The Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers have maintained position 153 on the Fifa Coca-Cola World Rankings.
This follows the Scorchers poor showing at the just ended Fifa Women’s Series where they lost two matches to Australia and hosts Kenya.
The rankings, released on Tuesday, shows there was no improvement for the Scorchers having failed to break into the top 150 in the world since they made maiden appearance in international football in 2002.
The Scorchers accumulated 1018.89 points during the period under review. Malawi had rose to position 153 from 155 in October last year.
This followed their maiden qualification to the 2026 TotalEnergies Caf Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals in Morocco later this year.

Since October last year, there has been no movement for the Scorchers despite playing unprecedented 17 matches-having won
During the period under review, the Scorchers suffered a 5-0 defeat to Australia in the Fifa Women’s Series at Nyayo National Stadium before a 3-2 loss to India at the same venue four days later.
The two losses came after the Scorchers recorded two victories and one loss at the delayed 2025 Cosafa Women’s Championship in Polokwane, South Africa in January this year.
Malawi beat Lesotho 8-1 and Angola 1-0 after a 2-0 loss to South Africa.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Operations Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the Scorchers are on right track after qualifying for the Wafcon finals.
“The team has achieved a lot including qualifying for Wafcon finals and winning the Cosafa Cup. We are moving in the right direction,” he said.
Malawi won their first ever Cosafa Women’s Championship in 2023 after beating Zambia 2-1 in the decider at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Pretoria, South Africa.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili was not readily available for his comment yesterday.
During last week’s Fifa Series, Fazili said some of the foreign-country based players lack commitment.
“We have learnt a lesson. When we assemble team to Wafcon, we are going to take players on merit not names. We have some local players who are doing better than professionals who are not putting 100 percent performance,” Fazili said.
The Scorchers are in Group C of the 2026 Wafcon finals alongside champions Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt.
Malawi’s opponents at the upcoming Wafcon finals, Nigerian remain the top ranked team in Africa.
The Super Falcons are ranked 36th in the world.
Globally, Spain maintained their first position followed by USA, England, Germany and Japan
