The Northern Region Football Association has called for speedy maintenance works at Mzuzu Stadium ahead of the 2026/2027 football season.
The call follows growing anxiety among the football fraternity over the ongoing rehabilitation works at the stadium, which is home to several teams including Moyale Barracks (both men and women’s teams), Mzuzu City Hammers and female outfit CY Sisters, in the Northern Region.

Northern Region Football Association Chairperson, Masiya Nyasulu, expressed concern over the pace of the works, warning that delays could affect teams from the region when the 2026/2027 season begins.
Nyasulu said the facility was the most reliable stadium in the region and plays a crucial role in hosting different competitions throughout the football calendar.
He said delays in completing the rehabilitation works could disrupt preparations for teams that rely on the stadium for their home matches.

“The stadium is very important to football in the Northern Region because it accommodates several competitions. Any delay in completing the works will affect our teams,” Nyasulu said.
However, Mzuzu City Council Assistant Director of Parks, Leisure and Environment Gerald Mchacha, said the facility would be ready before the start of the new season.
Mchacha assured the football fraternity that the council, with support from the government, is working to ensure the project is completed on time.
He said the rehabilitation works were expected to be completed by the end of March.
