Super League of Malawi (Sulom) President Fleetwood Haiya has said TNM Super League teams will continue playing one game per week to safeguard players’ health.
At the start of the season, Sulom introduced this system, whereby teams play once a week.
However, Sulom faces a test to conclude the season within the stipulated time after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) executive meeting slightly revised the football calendar to pave the way for the Flames’ residential camp.
Fam has also shifted the FDH Bank Cup semifinals to September 16 and 17 from September 2 and 3 due to the crammed calendar.
Following the arrangement, TNM Super League will be on a two-week break while the 2023 season will end on December 31 instead of December 23.

However, Haiya said despite the changes, Sulom will continue fixing a game per week to give players time to recover fully before their next assignment.
“Our interest is in the health of our players in the league. As such every team will be playing after 72 hours to give players enough time to rest.
“We know the second round will be congested with fixtures because of cup games and national team duties but we will try our best to finish the season in the last week of November or the first week of December,” Haiya said.
Meanwhile, Sulom has released fixtures for week 18 whereby Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will play Ekwendeni Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium on Wednesday before taking on Chitipa United on Saturday at Karonga Stadium.
