Malawi Police Service has transferred some of its senior officers from the Eastern Region.
The changes come a week after law enforcers from the region were questioned on how they reacted to the violence that erupted during anti-government protests.
In the transfers, Violet Magwaya, who was Eastern Region commissioner, has been moved to police headquarters in Lílongwe to head the Research and Planning department.
She has swapped roles with Babra Mchenga Tsiga who will now be commissioner for the Eastern Region, while Limbe Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gladwell Chipumphula is replacing Kelvin Mulezo as Deputy Commissioner for the Eastern Region.

Mulezo will be heading to Karonga to be Officer[1]in-Charge for Karonga Police Station.
In another transfer, Edwin Nkhambo who was Officer-in-Charge for Karonga heads to Blantyre as Limbe Police Station Officer-in-Charge.
National police spokesperson Peter Kalaya has said the transfers are normal and have nothing to do with the way police handled the demonstrations.
“Transfers are internal issues and normal. This happens time and again in police service,” Kalaya said.
