Over 180 kids took part in an under-15 football bonanza at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes) Sports Complex on Saturday, courtesy of Tvents Soccer School.
Tvents partnered Ana A M’mudzi to stage the bonanza that attracted teams from well-known townships in Blantyre including Ndirande, Nyambadwe, Michiru, Kanjeza and Chirimba.
The soccer school’s chairperson Chisomo Mwamadi said they wanted to bridge the gap in football development.
“The main aim and motivation for this tournament was to unearth talent. As a soccer school which started in February, our plan is to go into the districts and towns to identify talent that can put Malawi on the map. You will agree with me that there is a gap in terms of sports development in the country,” Mwamadi, who is also Board Director for Malawi National Council of Sports, said.
Currently, Tvents Soccer School has 35 youngsters but 10 outstanding players from the bonanza will be signed by the organisation.

“The initiative was to give the children a platform to showcase their talent and identify at least 10 youngsters to join the newly established soccer school.
“We would like to play a big role in nurturing and developing football talents in the communities. We would like to see them grow into export-quality players,” Mwamadi said.
On her part, Ana A M’mudzi representative Murimu Kachitsa said the project will help develop youngsters.
“We will run a bonanza and, through our partnership with Tvents, we will be able to sharpen our youngsters because our partners have a unique way of developing talent to be sent overseas,” Kachitsa said.

Meanwhile, on-and-off Flames attacker Robin Ngalande, who was the guest of honour at the event, commended Tvents for organising the bonanza.
“It is good to give these youngsters a platform at this tender age to showcase their talent. We have so much talent in Malawi and we need organisations like Tvents to identify and nurture such talent,” the former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers midfielder said.
During the tournament, Nyambabwe emerged winners after beating Chirimba 2-1 in the final.
Tvents has instructors such as Taziona Nasimba and Raquib Milanzi.
