Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) has released names of nominated candidates for its annual elective general congress set for September 29 at Malawi Olympic Committee offices in Lilongwe.
The elections could see the return of the association’s former president Oscar Kanjala should he triumph against Daudi Hussein on the position of president.
This is just one of the two posts that will be contested for at the polls, with the rest having just one nominee.
The other position that has contestants is that of youth director which will see Liberty Nyathi taking on Young Jere.
In other positions, Banthari Banda and Peter Gomani will continue serving Basmal as vice president and general secretary, respectively, with no one challenging them.

Edda Mkombezi and Thokozani Kamangira are also set to retain their positions of vice general secretary and treasurer, respectively, without opposition.
The same applies to technical director Hope Chisamanga and women’s director Pamela Kudiwa, with Ntchiwi Chiwaya also staying put as marketing and resource mobilization director.
But Basmal affiliates have not nominated for the post of compliance and competitions director, a position currently being held by Dominic Moyo.
Gomani said the current member will continue to hold the office until the new committee co-opts someone to fill the gap.

“Our constitution gives powers to the executive committee to co-opt any member if there is a casual vacancy. So we will do as required by our laws,” he said.
Kanjala was Basmal president from 2006 to 2010 and is now a sports science lecturer at Malawi University of Science and Technology in Thyolo District.
He confirmed that he was indeed nominated by some affiliates but was still consulting.
Hussein, who is better known as Dr Print in basketball circles, also confirmed that he is vying for the presidency.
The elections will take place just a day after the K450 million National Bank of Malawi Mo626 College Basketball competition finals at African Bible College in Lilongwe.
