Forgotten Malawian striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango opened his scoring account for Marumo Gallants in a 4-1 loss to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.
Mhango, who came on in the 62nd minute for Sekela Sithole, netted the consolation for Gallants in the 88th minute, as he made up for his missed penalty.
“Gallants were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute of the match after Monde Mphambaniso beat Zuko Mdeunyelwa for pace before being brought down in the box.
“But Gabadinho Mhango fired his shot straight at Williams, who denied the visitors a goal,” reported Super Sport.
The goal means Mhango continued to haunt Sundowns,

having also scored in a 2-2 draw when he was at Moroka Swallows in April this year.
However, Mhango was not readily available for his comment yesterday.
Last year, he scored six goals for Swallows in all competitions. Mhango joined Gallants after Swallows sold their Premiership status to the Free State-based club.
The Malawian returned to Free State, where he started his career in South Africa when he joined Bloemfontein Celtic in 2014.

Since then, he has played for several clubs including Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, Amazulu and Golden Arrows. He won the Golden Boot award after scoring 16 goals when he was playing for Pirates during the 2019-20 season.
South Africa-based Malawian sports journalist Benjamin Nyirenda said despite three defeats for his club, it was a good start for his compatriot.
“I am sure he will score more goals for the club. He is a top player,” Nyirenda said.
The defeat to Sundowns means Gallants are without a win in the 2024 campaign after three matches. They anchor the log table without a point.
