United States (US) former president Donald Trump has won Tuesday’s election, becoming the 47th president of the country.
He beat Democratic party candidate Kamala Harris by 71,874,276 (50.9 percent of the vote) to 67,006,959 votes (representing 47.4 percent).
In terms of college votes, he got 294 votes against Harris’ 223, at least as we went to press.
One needs at least 270 college votes to emerge successful.
Harris addressed Americans on the issue at 21:00 GMT, which came after she phoned Trump to congratulate him on the victory.

President Joe Biden also congratulated the Republican candidate.
Of the seven crucial swing states in the country, Trump has won North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, and was ahead in Nevada and Arizona as we went to press.
In another blow to Democrats, Republicans have also taken the Senate back from the Democrats after flipping a string of seats
And, in an email sent to Harris campaign staff, campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said the vice-president had told Trump “she would work with President [Joe] Biden to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, unlike what we saw in 2020”.

“You stared down unprecedented headwinds and obstacles that were largely out of our control. We knew this would be a margin-of-error race, and it was,” O’Malley Dillon told Harris campaign staff.
She admitted that “losing is unfathomably painful”, and that “this will take a long time to process”.
But the campaign manager stressed that “the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump presidency starts now”, and that the vice-president “isn’t finished in this fight”.

President-elect Trump is set to be inaugurated on January 20.
And, in a statement sent out by his campaign, Trump reflects on his historic win, calling it “a political victory that our country has never seen before”.
He then promises that he will “fight” for America, a repeated phrase people often heard on the campaign trail.
“I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve,” he said.
“Together, we’re going to unlock America’s glorious destiny.
“Thank you once again for electing me in a landslide victory,” he said.
At the end of the email, a link prompted Trump’s supporters to continue to donate to his campaign.—BBC
