Parliamentarian and former Football Association of Malawi (Fam) president Walter Nyamilandu Manda will contest demands from his successor Fleetwood Haiya following defamation claims.
Haiya sought legal action after comments Nyamilandu made on the Face2Face Podcast on Thursday, 15 January 2026.
The Fam boss, through his lawyers Blackstone Chambers, is demanding a retraction and K200 million in damages.
Nyamilandu’s lawyer David Kanyenda said they will contest the claims.
“We have received instructions from Honourable Nyamilandu to respond to the demand letter.

“In our professional view, the claims by FH are without legal merit and we will formally reply. We shall deploy all legal resources to contest any proceedings FH may initiate and seek outright dismissal with costs likely to exceed the sum claimed,” Kanyenda said.

The demand letter alleged that Nyamilandu appeared on the podcast, published on YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, Instagram and other social media, where he made the remarks.
The video was widely circulated by the public and promoted the podcast episode, the letter added.
Face2Face released a statement: “Face2Face is an independent long-form conversation platform committed to open, responsible and balanced dialogue on public interest issues.

“We do not pre-emptively comment on the substance of editorial work. We allow conversations to speak for themselves within a framework of fairness, context, ethical responsibility and journalistic integrity,” co-founder Brian Mungomo Jr said.
Haiya ended Nyamilandu’s 19-year tenure as Fam president during the December 2023 elections.
