FCB Nyasa Big Bullets acting coach Gilbert Chirwa is having a say in the team’s ongoing recruitment exercise, Times Sport has learnt.
Bullets have reportedly agreed personal terms with a number of players, including Karonga United goalkeeper Maclean Mwale and Creck Sporting Club’s George Chaomba, ahead of the opening of the transfer window.
The People’s Team are also courting a number of players from other teams as they are also hunting for a new coach.
Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga did not disclose names of the players the team was courting but confirmed that the recruitment exercise was currently underway, awaiting the transfer window opening.

“We cannot wait [for the opening of the new window]. We do not want our rival teams to get all the best players on the land. We do not want to be caught off-guard. We are approaching those we believe are good and will fit into our philosophy,” Chigoga said.

He said they were following recommendations from relevant authorities within the team’s setup before approaching players for possible signing.
Meanwhile, Chirwa has confirmed in a separate interview that, alongside other members of the technical panel, they are taking part in the player recruitment drive.
“We are involved. I can confirm that the management is not just approaching the new players; we are consulted as [members of the] technical panel,” Chirwa said.
However, football analyst Parry Chinyama has warned Bullets against signing players before hiring a new coach.

“What Bullets ought to do is expedite the appointment of the head coach or risk compromising the team’s performance in the new season. The challenge is that, what if Gilbert Chirwa is not appointed head coach and another coach comes in: Will the new coach like the players that are being signed now?” Chinyama said.
Bullets have lost two top goal scorers in the just-ended season and these are Chikumbutso Salima and Babatunde Adepoju.
