Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi Annie Sofie Bjelland has commended the Government of Malawi for its efforts in providing sexual and reproductive health services (SRHS) to communities, particularly those in hard-to-reach areas.
Bjelland made the remarks in Dowa on Wednesday during a visit to Dzaleka Health Centre, where she observed, firsthand, work being carried out by Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam) through the We Belong Together Project.
She said Norway was committed to supporting Malawi’s health sector, citing ongoing efforts to expand access to SRHS, including the deployment of mobile clinics to serve remote communities.
“Malawi has made significant strides in providing SRHS to its citizens and we are proud to be a part of this progress,” she said.

Bjelland said Norway’s support to Malawi’s health sector was intended to contribute to the country’s broader development objectives, including reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
Fpam Executive Director Donald Makwakwa reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to partnering with the government to deliver SRHS to health centres and underserved communities.
“We are proud to partner with the Norwegian Government and other stakeholders to improve access to SRHS in Malawi,” he said.
Through initiatives such as the We Belong Together Project, Norway is helping to improve health outcomes for Malawians, particularly women and girls, while contributing to the country’s overall development goals.

The project is being implemented in Dowa and Mzimba North districts and aims to increase access to family planning services, maternal and child health care and sexual and reproductive health services.
