Malawian striker Binwell Katinji made a dream start to life in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) after scoring in Chicken Inn’s 1-1 stalemate with Herentals College FC at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.
Just weeks after joining the club from Malawi’s Silver Strikers, Katinji was thrown straight into the fray by coach Tonderai Ndiraya, who is chasing his third title on the bounce having won it with Simba Bhora and Scotland.
Katinji did not disappoint his new employers with a solid performance capped with a goal.
He gave Chicken Inn, popularly known as the Game Cocks, the lead but his goal was not enough to secure maximum points for the Bulawayo-based club as Raphael Kawondera snatched a point for Herentals.
According to Zimbabwe’s Sunday Mail, Katinji broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when he headed in across from Michael Charamba.

Earlier on, Katinji had another chance but he missed it from close range.
“Now under Ndiraya, Chicken Inn started the stronger side and could have scored at least twice in the second half. Binwell raced clear after 19 minutes, but fired wide from close range. The former Silver player then scored his first goal after 40 minutes, heading home a fine cross from the right by Michael Charamba,” Sunday Mail reported.
Katinji said the best was yet to come from him.
“I am happy to score for the club. Unfortunately, we did not get all the points,” he said.

Katinji, who is under TS Sports Agency, is among several Malawian players in the PSL.
Representative of TS Agency Dyson Musa said Katinji would shine in PSL.
“He is a good player and we have all the hopes that he will deliver,” he said.
His compatriot Maxwell Paipi had a debut to forget as FC Platinum lost 2-1 to Ngezi Platinum.
Nickson Nyasulu also started for Platinum whereas Gomezgani Chirwa played for Ngezi.
