A joint force of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and the Malawi Police Service (MPS) has been deployed to Msundwe Trading Centre over the past 48 hours, locking down the area in a high-stakes security operation that has left locals on the edge.
The township, which is situated along the Lilongwe-Mchinji Road, has effectively become a “no-go zone” heavily patrolled by armed men in uniform.
Reports indicate that several people have been arrested.
No one is able to communicate as residents have been confined to their homes.
