Malawi Women’s National Football Team coach Lovemore Fazili has said the Chawinga sisters—Tabitha and Temwa—have confirmed their availability for the upcoming two friendly international matches next month.
Both Tabitha and Temwa missed the last two matches at the Fifa Women’s Series in Nairobi, Kenya, last month due to injuries.
However, Fazili was quoted as saying on the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) website that the two goal-scoring machines would make the trip to Tanzania after they were included in the 32-member squad.
“Yes, I am 100 percent sure that they are coming. They did not show up for the Fifa Women Series in Kenya as they were both injured,” Fazili said.
The Scorchers are using the two matches as part of preparations for the upcoming 2026 TotalEnergies Caf Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals in Morocco.

The finals are scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16.
Fazili said the availability of the two stars would boost morale in camp ahead of the Wafcon finals.
“We discussed [the issue] with them and, this time around, they are coming, which is good for us as a team and country.
We are in the final stages of our preparations for the Wafcon finals and, so, we need all the players,” Fazili said.

Both Tabitha and Temwa were not readily available for comments Tuesday.
Tabitha last played for the Scorchers in October last year whereas Temwa last played for Malawi in March last year.
Malawi started preparations for the two matches on Monday.
The team will meet Tanzania on June 3, 2026 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, before facing Ghana three days later.
The Scorchers last met Tanzania during the 2022 Cosafa Women’s Championship group stages but lost 3-1 in South Africa.
Prior to that, the two teams had met in a 2021 Cosafa Women’s Championship decider, which the Scorchers lost 1-0 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in South Africa.

Similarly, Malawi lost 3-1 to Ghana in a friendly match in Morocco last year.
Malawi are in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, Egypt and Zambia.
Meanwhile, Temwa has scored her sixth goal of the season.
He scored the goal as Kansas City Current defeated Portland Thorns 3-1 on Sunday. It was her 41st career National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) goal in 48 matches.
The Scorchers striker has been in form since she returned from injury last month.
Temwa is three goals behind Zambian Barbara Banda.
Tabitha is also enjoying a good season in France after scoring 11 goals in the league.
The Scorchers captain was on the losing side as Olympique Lyonnais lost 4-0 to Barcelona in the Uefa Women’s Champions League final on Sunday.
