implement policies
By Brenda Kayo:
Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi has challenged government institutions to move beyond policy formulation and focus on implementation if Malawi were to achieve meaningful development.
Saidi said this in Lilongwe Tuesday during a high-level validation meeting for the 2026-31 Draft National Intellectual Property Policy.
“Having good policies is not enough; what matters is our ability to implement them and translate them into tangible results,” Saidi said.
He described the proposed intellectual property policy as an important instrument for promoting innovation, technology and intellectual property as Malawi works towards meeting goals outlined in the Malawi 2063 vision.

Companies Registration and Intellectual Property Centre (CRIPC) Board Chairperson Macpherson Mallewa said greater investment in innovation and protection of intellectual property could help drive economic growth.
“Malawi has many innovations with the potential to transform different sectors, but protecting those ideas is essential if innovators are to fully benefit from their work,” Mallewa said.
