The Episcopal Synod which met at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka, Zambia, on February 29 this year has unanimously agreed to elect Bishop William Mchombo as the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire (Adus).
Vicar General Grant Timpunza Tebulo has confirmed notifying the faithful in the diocese about the latest development.
The new bishop’s election comes close to two years after the excommunication of former bishop, Brighton Vita Malasa.
There were disagreements between the faithful and the former bishop but church leaders failed to resolve the matter.
As developments continued to unfold, Malasa was excommunicated for allegedly failing to attend one of the disciplinary meetings.

Malasa, who was bishop of Adus since 2009, allegedly fell out with the faithful in 2018.
At one time, the faithful in Adus failed to elect a bishop through the ballot after failing to fulfill laws under Canon 6(10)a.
Four people contested on the position of bishop in Adus but none of them got two-thirds of the vote, as enshrined under their law, Canon 6(10)a.
Reverend Canon John Alexander Mchakama got six votes while his strongest contender, Reverend Canon Auster Kalilombe, got five votes.
