First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, with support from NBS Bank, has donated items worth K100 million to 500 less-privileged households under Senior Chief Tsabango, Lilongwe City.
The items include maize floor, soya pieces, sugar, cooking oil and soap.
The donation has been made through Beautify Malawi Trust.
Mutharika said she thought of supporting the households as part of the just-ended festive season.

“Beautify Malawi Trust wants to see Malawi beautiful and well cared for. We don’t want to see waste everywhere.
“On behalf of Beautify Malawi Trust, I wish to thank NBS Bank and Nico Group for the support they have provided to us. You have shown care for these people,” Mutharika said.
She urged other players in business and civil society spaces to collaborate with others in providing support to those in need, including people affected by natural disasters, across the country.
“This time, a lot is happening. There are floods in Nkhotakota and other areas. Other people are living in poor conditions; so, let’s collaborate and help them,” she said.

NBS Bank Chairperson, who is also Nico Group Holdings Limited Managing Director, Vizenge Kumwenda expressed optimism that the support would bring hope to the beneficiaries.
“We, as Nico, felt that it was a good cause for us to be part of this process; a process that will bring smiles, happiness and joy to other people,” Kumwenda said.
He said the group was committed to supporting the less-privileged across the country.
Senior Chief Tsabango said the support was crucial as the area had many less-privileged people, including orphans, those disabled and the elderly, who have no food.
“You have shown commitment by providing your care and support,” Tsabango said.
Homeland Security Minister Peter Mukhito, Minister of State Alfred Gangata, wife to the State Second Vice President Tadala Chihana and Lilongwe City Mayor Peter Banda were some of the officials who graced the event.
