RESUMING THIS WEEKEND—NBS Bank NDL action
SHARE

Action in the second round of the NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) kicks off this weekend with matches lined up for Saturday and Sunday.

Football Association of Malawi Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said they are excited to resume after a competitive and action-packed first round.

“We saw teams working very hard in the first round to put themselves in the running for the three automatic slots for next season’s Super League. We are thankful to all our stakeholders for their collaboration which helped us to effectively implement this project.

“Being the first year of rolling out this project, there were some doubts on how we would implement a second tier national league. But we are glad that everything is going according to plan and we expect to continue from where we stopped in the first round,” Zakazaka said.

He said they will ensure that all teams fulfill their fixtures to make the league even more exciting and competitive.

“We want to produce great teams from this league. The idea is that these teams should compete well when they get promoted to the Super League. This national league is giving teams the real test which will prepare them for top flight action,” Zakazaka said.

Red Lions top the table with 23 points from 11 matches while Mitundu lie second after collecting 21 points from the same number of fixtures.

Lions are in action on Sunday against third-placed Namitete Zitha at Balaka Stadium while Mitundu Baptist face Ndirande Stars at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre tomorrow.

Chintheche United play at Mpira against Bangwe All Stars on Sunday.

Also in action tomorrow are Ntaja United who line up against Baka City at Balaka Stadium while Chilumba Barracks face Fomo at Mulanje Park on Sunday.

Jenda United will be hoping for better fortunes when they take on fellow relegation candidates Mchinji Villa at Kasungu Stadium.

Four teams will be relegated from the NDL to pave way for regional league champions from the South, East, Centre and North.

The top three NDL teams will earn automatic promotion to the TNM Super League.
