Football Association of Malawi (Fam) will today interview five candidates who were shortlisted for a newly created post of chief operations officer.
The association’s first vice president Christopher Kuyera confirmed the development but declined to give more details, referring us to general secretary (GS) Alfred Gunda.
“I would advise that you talk to the GS. He is in a better position to comment on the development,” Kuyera said.
Gunda did not respond to a questionnaire we sent to him.
However, an inside source confided in us that some of the candidates on the lineup are Fam Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka, former Fam Club Licencing and Compliance Manager Casper Jangale, former Cosafa and Fam general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda and former Super League of Malawi executive member Ernest Maganga.

Jangale and Nyirenda confirmed receiving Fam’s invitation to the interviews and said they were hoping for a good outcome.
Former Fam acting general secretary George Kaudza Masina said the association needed to enlighten the public on the new position.
“From the surface, let us agree with Fam as this is coming after a functional review. It is possible that they might have identified some gaps, hence the creation of this new position. The position of chief executive officer [CEO] and that of chief operations officer are too distinct in most organisations.
“Chief operations officer is a technical and operations person while the CEO is an administrator, thus [there is] no conflict between them. This is likely to help with the transformation agenda,” Kaudza Masina said.

Last month, Fam advertised the position with interviews having been set for Thursday last week but were postponed to today.
