Miss Malawi Second Princess Tina Mkombezi will represent the country at the Miss African Essence pageant in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mkombezi leaves the country on Sunday and is expected back home on May 3, 2026.
She said yesterday that she was honoured to carry Malawi’s flag at the pageant.
“This trip is a symbol of responsibility, growth and purpose. As second princess, it is not just about representing beauty, but representing the dreams and voices of young Malawian women,” Mkombezi said.

She further said her participation at the pageant meant stepping onto a continental stage and proving that Malawi had strong, intelligent and capable women.
Founder of Ignite Mwana Malawi, an initiative focused on empowering young people through education, Mkombezi said the platform would also accord her a chance to build networks with other African women.
“Most of all, I am looking forward to gaining experience and exposure as well as bringing the crown home,” she said.
Miss Malawi Public Relations Officer Stephen Mdala said the trip was significant to the country.

“We are carrying the flag in tourism. Remember that, last year, we said this year is the beginning of our era of global excellence, where we are going to be a hub for art and tourism, among other things,” Mdala said.
Miss African Essence pageant is a continental platform that celebrates African diversity, culture and the power of women.
