Thousands of people attended the funeral ceremony of former Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Henry Chibowa, who was laid to rest at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre Thursday.
The funeral ceremony started at his home in Njamba, Blantyre, before a mass at Soche Anglican Church.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Walter Nyamilandu Chibowa, saying he invited him to join football administration.
“He taught many, including myself, about football administration. He was a man full of jokes but in football we benefited a lot due to his wisdom,” he said.
Nyamilandu further recalled that during that time, Sulom was only a subcommittee of Fam and that one of the achievements during Chibowa’s term of office was securing sponsorship from TNM.
Speaking earlier, Sulom President Fleetwood Haiya described Chibowa as an accomplished football administrator.
“He achieved a lot as far as football administration is concerned,” he said.
Malawi National Council of Sports Board Chairperson Sunduzwayo Madise also paid tribute to Chibowa, describing him as a result-oriented person.
Chibowa, 58, served as Sulom president from 2002 to 2011.
He was born on April 27 1965 and is survived by two sons. He came from Tito Village, T/A Kanyenda, Nkhota-kota District.
