Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has called for an annual general meeting (AGM) following demands from concerned stakeholders.
According to a press statement dated May 9 2024, Nam will hold the AGM on June 22 at Mzuzu Hotel.
“Pursuant to article 17.1 (a) of the Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) constitution, notice is hereby given of the 2024 Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Mzuzu on June 22, 2024 at Mzuzu Hotel.

“Business of the day includes consideration of accounts, reports of the executive committee (including activities of the association during the last preceding financial year), appointment of auditors,” reads part of the statement signed by General Secretary Isaac Chimwala.
Nam last held an AGM on July 1 last year.

This will be the second AGM for the association since the current executive committee was ushered into office in August 2021.
However, Chimwala could not be drawn into stating the factors have necessitated the AGM.
This comes in the wake of a petition by concerned affiliates for Nam to hold an AGM within 14 days to address flaws haunting the game in the country.
“We pen this letter with a heavy heart, fuelled by the collective disappointment of netball enthusiasts across our nation. As the concerned district netball chairpersons and other netball community, we express our profound dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs under your leadership. The promises made during your campaign were mere words; they were a beacon of hope for our beloved sport. Regrettably these promises remain unfulfilled, casting a shadow over the integrity of our association.

“The promise to secure additional sponsors for our netball league across the nation remains unfulfilled. Our players, coaches and fans eagerly awaited the influx of financial support to elevate the game. Transparency was a cornerstone of your campaign. But it is zero. However, the capacity surrounding financial reports raises concerns. The failure to present an annual financial statement undermines our confidence in Nams financial Management,” part of the petition read.
One of the petitioners, Steve Nyadira welcomed the move.
“We have several issues that must be ironed out. We feel the AGM is the right forum for addressing all our concerns for the betterment of the sport in Malawi,” Nyadira said.
